Japanese Pokémon cards
Japanese sets don't map one-to-one onto English ones: Japanese booster packs usually hold 5 cards, rarities are printed as letters (RR, AR, SAR, UR) instead of symbols, and many cards appear in Japanese sets months before their English release.

Know which English set it becomes
English sets are often built from pieces of several Japanese sets. The card number and set code tell you exactly which release you have.
Rarity letters, not symbols
RR is Double Rare, AR is Illustration Rare, SAR is Special Illustration Rare and UR is Hyper Rare — our rarity decoder covers both systems.
Tournament play is local-language
Play! Pokémon Championship Series events in the US allow English cards only (Canada also allows French), so Japanese cards are mostly bought to collect, not to play.
