Vintage Pokémon cards (1999–2003)
The English Pokémon TCG launched on January 9, 1999 with Base Set, and Base Set alone had four English print runs — 1st Edition, Shadowless, Unlimited and a later Unlimited with a 1999–2000 copyright line — so the printing matters as much as the card.

What to know before you buy vintage
Identify the print run
1st Edition has a stamp; Shadowless lacks the drop shadow beside the art box; Unlimited has the shadow and thicker HP text. Our Base Set guide shows every tell.
Graded vintage is easier to trust
High-value vintage is heavily counterfeited and often trimmed or cleaned. A slab from a major grader removes most of that risk.
Expect wear
Cards printed between 1999 and 2003 with sharp corners and clean surfaces are scarce, which is exactly why condition drives vintage prices.
