What Will a Shop Pay? Offer Estimator

Published card-shop buy rates run 40–60% of market value in cash and 65–80% in trade credit for cards worth selling one by one, and about $8–$30 per 1,000 for bulk commons and uncommons (shop and guide figures, September 2026). This estimator turns your cards’ sold prices and bulk counts into that range, with every percentage shown and editable.

Worked example

Three hits and a box of bulk, cash vs trade credit

An example collection (made-up round numbers): three cards whose recent sold prices are $60, $25 and $15, plus 2,000 commons and uncommons, 150 reverse holos and 40 holo rares.

Hits: $60 + $25 + $15 = $100 market value. At 40–60% in cash that’s $40 to $60; at 65–80% in trade credit, $65 to $80.

Bulk, cash: 2,000 ÷ 1,000 × $8 to $30 = $16 to $60; 150 × $0.015 to $0.05 = $2.25 to $7.50; 40 × $0.015 to $0.10 = $0.60 to $4. Total bulk $18.85 to $71.50; in trade credit, 25% more: $23.56 to $89.38.

Estimated offer: $58.85 to $131.50 in cash, or $88.56 to $169.38 in trade credit. The widest swing is the bulk: the published bulk rates move the cash offer by $52.65 ($44 of it from $8 vs $30 per 1,000 commons and uncommons), more than the $20 spread on the hits. That’s why sorting bulk and asking more than one shop pays.

Selling the $60 card yourself instead: eBay takes 13.25% + $0.40 = $8.35, so you keep $51.65; on TCGplayer 10.75% + 2.5% + $0.30 = $8.25, so you keep $51.75. Both are before postage, supplies and the wait for a buyer, against $24 to $36 in cash today.

How to use it

In 5 steps

  1. 1Pull out the hits (cards worth selling one by one) and find each one's recent sold price with the Price Check tool.
  2. 2Enter each card's market value and quantity, or one total for all of them.
  3. 3Count the bulk roughly: commons and uncommons, reverse holos, holo rares, energy and code cards.
  4. 4Choose cash or trade credit and read the range. Open the assumptions to change any rate.
  5. 5Compare it with selling the hits yourself, then get real quotes: text photos to a shop or two.

Why shops pay below market, and how to net more

Where the discount goes

A shop that buys your card pays you today and sells it later. If it sells online it pays the same fees you would (13.25% plus a per-order fee on eBay, 10.75% plus 2.5% and $0.30 on TCGplayer for most sellers), plus postage and packing. Someone has to sort, check condition, price and list every card. Prices can fall while a card waits, and some cards never sell. Keystone Games, a shop that publishes its reasoning, lists overhead, payment risk, the time it takes to evaluate and resell, and inventory risk.

How sellers net more

  • Sell the hits individually if you have the time. On the example above, one $60 card nets about $51.65 on eBay after fees, before shipping.
  • Sell the bulk in bulk. Sort it by type first: buylists pay by the thousand, and two in the Monster & Shield roundup pay half for unsorted.
  • Take trade credit if you’ll spend it there anyway. The Card Shop Finder puts credit offers 25–50% above cash.
  • Get two or three quotes for anything worth more than a few hundred dollars. The Card Shop Finder says offers can differ by 30–50% between shops.

Where the sources disagree

Keystone Games puts most shops at 40–60% cash, with 50% typical. The Card Shop Finder agrees for desirable singles but says hot modern product can fetch 70–80% and commons 20–40%. Knight & Day Games publishes about 60% cash and up to 80% credit. On bulk, buylists run from $8 per 1,000 (Collectors Emporium) to $30 (Kruk Cards, in the Monster & Shield roundup), and Misprint’s estimates are higher still. That spread is why the tool shows a range and lets you change every number.

FAQ

Offer estimator: questions

What percentage of market value do card shops pay for Pokémon cards?

Published figures put most card shops at about 40–60% of market value in cash for cards worth selling individually, with 50% often quoted as typical, and 65–80% in store or trade credit. Fast-selling modern cards can fetch more and commons less. Every shop sets its own rates, so get a quote.

Is trade credit better than cash when selling cards?

Trade credit is worth more on paper: published rates run 65–80% of market against 40–60% for cash, and some shops add 20–33% on bulk. It's only spendable at that shop, so it's the better deal if you were going to buy there anyway.

How much is Pokémon bulk worth per 1,000 cards?

Published shop buylists pay roughly $8 to $30 per 1,000 sorted commons and uncommons in cash as of September 2026. Reverse holos and holo rares are bought individually for a few cents each, and some buylists pay half for unsorted bulk.

Why won't a shop pay TCGplayer Market Price for my cards?

TCGplayer Market Price is what buyers paid on TCGplayer. A shop has to resell the card and pays the same kind of fees you would (10.75% plus 2.5% and $0.30 on TCGplayer, or 13.25% plus a per-order fee on eBay), plus labour, shipping and the risk the price drops before it sells.

What are eBay's and TCGplayer's fees for selling Pokémon cards?

As of September 2026, eBay charges 13.25% of the total sale up to $7,500 in its Collectible Card Games category, 2.35% above that, plus $0.30 per order of $10 or less or $0.40 above. TCGplayer charges most sellers a 10.75% commission capped at $75 per product plus a 2.5% + $0.30 transaction fee.

Are energy cards and code cards worth anything?

Very little. Of the shops we checked, one doesn't buy energy at all and the highest published rate was half a cent per basic energy. Code cards weren't on any buylist we checked.
